(overdue)

Dear Diary,

17 August 2007, Thursday

The rain poured so hard that it made our classes get suspended that Thursday and Friday. Tonette (my housemate) and I boarded the bus at 3pm and were able to make it to our respective evacuation sites on the night of Friday, although late. The traffic prolonged our stay inside the bus. Occasionally we slept, and then we woke up with the Beegees’ concert in the bus’ TV. The rain continued to fall and the combination of chill inside the bus and the already cold atmosphere around gave me the need to hug myself more and further, to place my hand inside my underarms, my remedy to acquire warmth. Tonette deprived me of hugging her.

One evident benefit for me of the rain was the excitement it brings to my senses. I liked it when my skin hair rises of the chill. I liked it when I needed to cuddle right inside a warming sweater which is initially cold when you retrieve it from your closet. And I loved it when I could have the most opportunities to huddle around a human blanket more than a wool-knitted one. The cool and moist and sweet atmosphere that the rain brings is the acceptable chance for more hugs! J

When I arrived home that night, I anticipated how my weekend would be. I immediately saw my sister, in long sleeves, dressed rightly for the weather. Later that day, when the sky light has gone dim, when my body clock started to schedule my sleep, I took the time to squeeze my face under Mama’s arms. It was nice.

The next day, Mama decided to change the old mattress of our family bed. She thought of using the larger and thicker one we have been keeping since we moved out from Cubao last January instead of the double-size mattress we were currently using. This was the best instance to reuse it when the weather and the season get colder. With the help of my cousin, they hurled the big mattress inside its cover, landed it on our bed, appropriated it with a yellow bed sheet, and we threw in the pillows. It was a nice inviting sight to rest. Mama did not perspire much and acknowledged the weather for that. She said, “kung ginawa natin ‘to hindi ngayon, sigurado tadtad tayo ng pawis.”(During ordinary noon days, it was not pleasant to stay inside our house because it was ho, really).

(Another thing I like when it rains is your desire to stay when you are necessitated to go. Personally, this is how I think it is. And I like it that way when I needed to stay inside our home and watch the rain. I do not feel deprived in anyway if I am restricted to go out.)
