(overdue)

Dear Diary,

17 August 2007, Thursday

The rain poured so hard that it made our classes get suspended that Thursday and Friday. Tonette (my housemate) and I boarded the bus at 3pm and were able to make it to our respective evacuation sites on the night of Friday, although late. The traffic prolonged our stay inside the bus. Occasionally we slept, and then we woke up with the Beegees’ concert in the bus’ TV. The rain continued to fall and the combination of chill inside the bus and the already cold atmosphere around gave me the need to hug myself more and further, to place my hand inside my underarms, my remedy to acquire warmth. Tonette deprived me of hugging her.

One evident benefit for me of the rain was the excitement it brings to my senses. I liked it when my skin hair rises of the chill. I liked it when I needed to cuddle right inside a warming sweater which is initially cold when you retrieve it from your closet. And I loved it when I could have the most opportunities to huddle around a human blanket more than a wool-knitted one. The cool and moist and sweet atmosphere that the rain brings is the acceptable chance for more hugs! J

When I arrived home that night, I anticipated how my weekend would be. I immediately saw my sister, in long sleeves, dressed rightly for the weather. Later that day, when the sky light has gone dim, when my body clock started to schedule my sleep, I took the time to squeeze my face under Mama’s arms. It was nice.

The next day, Mama decided to change the old mattress of our family bed. She thought of using the larger and thicker one we have been keeping since we moved out from Cubao last January instead of the double-size mattress we were currently using. This was the best instance to reuse it when the weather and the season get colder. With the help of my cousin, they hurled the big mattress inside its cover, landed it on our bed, appropriated it with a yellow bed sheet, and we threw in the pillows. It was a nice inviting sight to rest. Mama did not perspire much and acknowledged the weather for that. She said, “kung ginawa natin ‘to hindi ngayon, sigurado tadtad tayo ng pawis.”(During ordinary noon days, it was not pleasant to stay inside our house because it was ho, really).

(Another thing I like when it rains is your desire to stay when you are necessitated to go. Personally, this is how I think it is. And I like it that way when I needed to stay inside our home and watch the rain. I do not feel deprived in anyway if I am restricted to go out.)

my thanksgiving for this sem.

Rating:★★★★★
Category:Other
This is a review of myself. ang hirap i-scope na over the sem lang ang thanksgiving. kasi, as i approach the en*ing (taboo word ba 'to?), sobrang pagba-backtrack ang nangyayari.

God has revealed himself to me in so many ways.

For one, He has been patient with me. Sabagay, alam nya ang kaibuturan ng puso ko. At tunay na matalino siya kung paano niya ko niluluto.

Here are my thanksgiving items (medyo general pa at kulang):

* pinagalitan ako ni ma'am __ nang maraming beses this sem. those were humbling experiences. nosebleed din ang pag-iisip sa isa pang subject (tatlo na lang subject ko).

* conversations with special people: ate aina, kuya figy, ate bang, yob, theo, roch.

* ah! pag-reveal ni God ng mga desires ko nga. i have been praying na ma-realize ko na ang mga bagay na gusto kong gawin, now and tomorrow. at paunti-unti namang nagkakalaman ang "things i want to do" list ko.

in 1Thes.5;16-18, we are commanded to:

* be joyful always
* pray continually
* give thanks in all circumstances

salamat kay God dahil tinuturuan niya 'ko to see Him mightily intervening sa pang-araw-araw na buhay ko. kahit na lagi akong napapagalitan at iba pang seem-to-be-negative na mga bagay.

Let us keep praising the Lord! nare-realize kong this is a great experience din of living: to praise God vocally and prayerfully!

stories from my grade five school bag.

MOLES and HAIR-DOS

            One afternoon, when I and my younger sister Mimi were playing, I noticed the black marker my kuya has used in labeling the folders in his school project. Mimi was fond of dressing herself up and I also liked experimenting with her. Sometimes, I borrowed her long hair. I asked her to sit back to back with me as I took her hair and placed it over my shoulders. Then I looked at myself in front of the mirror. At some distance, you might actually mistake her hair as originally mine. I still had other attempts of trying to experience having long hair by putting on a towel or our orange TV set cover in my hair. Like what Alice Dixon said in one of her classic commercials, I can feel it!

I did not know why I always had my hair cut short. Mama said that I seemed to be aloof of combs or fancy hair clips that’s why I was always short-haired. Plus, my apple-cut hair complemented my round and chubby face (only when I reached high school that I noticed my face as somewhat square-shaped because of my jaws). Well, I did not remember disagreeing with the idea. I had this classmate who looked like the junioress of Jolina Magdangal – what with all the colorful series of hair clips, glittery headbands, 3D butterfly clips, etc., all lined up in a series in every variety everyday. I didn’t like that. I preferred black hair. Alone.

            Going back to my sister’s fancy of self-presentation even if she’s in grade two then and going back to the black marker I saw, may I now tell the story about the moles. (Or maybe you already have an idea about how the mole and the marker would come about in this story.) I got the marker and asked my sister, “Mi, gusto mo lagyan kitang nunal?”(“Mi, do you want me to put you a mole?”) Maybe seeing the bright idea and eagerness that flashed through my eyes, she nodded and smiled. To my delight.

            I intently put a dot on the upper portion of her lips. To my unreliable recollection, I guess that was on the left portion of her lips since I was right-handed. Tenen! (expression) There! Her new mole was perfectly made by me. From what I watched in the television, girls that have mole in that area seemed to be cunning and sometimes, they were the antagonist. Mimi, I think, liked the instantly-done part of her face. Then, another bright idea rang in me. ”Gusto mo bang tumalino?”(“Do you want to be smart?”). She repeatedly said yes. Thus, I inched my way to dotting another mole in her temple near her right eye. (I did not think that I have a grasp of symmetry, left mole and right mole balance.) Was that a kind of experiment? I did not know. I was grade five then.

            Our playtime has ended and we had to retire to our beds already. The following day, Mimi had to go to class in the morning. Mine started after lunch.

            Less than a decade after (literally), Mimi relayed to me the event that happened the next morning in class after she has acquired her new set of moles. I ended up bursting in laughter while she smirked at me. She eventually laughed, too. She recalled that her best friend pinpointed the upper portion of her lips and her temples asking, “Bakit may dumi ka dyan?” or “Ano’ yang dumi na ‘yan?” (“Why do you have stain in your face?”) Mimi probably blushed with embarrassment during that time. I told her that maybe she didn’t wash her face enough. Should I take the blame on me?
