My Christmas (and Birthday) Wishlist - as inspired by Ching Ü

1) a hardbound journal - mauubos na kasi ang mga pahina.
2) set of new handkerchiefs - at di talaga ko makabili para sa sarili ko. saka laging nawawala.
3) colored pencils and a sketchpad
4) trip to Tagaytay or Baguio!
5) trip to Manila Ocean Park!
6) foodies!

I thank you. Ü

favored.

This morning, I missed my alarm the second time I snoozed it, got up considerably a little late than when I should have, uttered a short prayer thanking God of what he has done yesterday, apologizing for heading straight to bed last night with just a "thank you, Lord (because I can now rest)", thanking Him again for what's to come today (and 2 days from today Ü), while accepting the reality that I should move faster because the chance of immediately getting in the train will be quite tough at 7am.

My soring left foot (because of the wound I acquired the other day for slipping on the road because of the new sandals--what a good morning!) also added to my dilemma. I only had myself to blame for not bringing my mighty tsinelas.

Favorably, I caught a jeep to Cubao right away. Thanks to the gentlemanong who gave way for me to have a seat. I reached the MRT station, ready to submerge myself into a crowd of hasty passengers. And wait 'til I'd be able to grace my way inside the fully-loaded train. And time is running. I don't want to be late (again). To my great relief, the train that stopped right after I stepped out of the escalator is almost empty! And it's not the usual picture at the terminal at 6:45am! (Yeah, and I arrived there 15 minutes from what I expect.)

As I entered the train and was able to even sit down, I squinted at the sunrise. But it was a different light that allowed me to remember how God has given me favor since I started my day:

My father was always the one to wake up ahead of me so he could cook rice for breakfast and for our baon. And he also prepared hot water for my bath.
My mother thoughtfully cooked and packed my lunch.

Though I'm hurting in my foot, I was able to walk my way to the office, 15 minutes earlier than 8, and--despite the troubles I have caused myself, the judgments I have formed in my mind towards my co-travelers especially during times I haste, and the ungrateful heart I have at times--I truly thanked God at this time for the favors He generously extended upon me... though I am undeserving and lacking and proud.

He has always been showing how gracious and loving He is in every circumstances that I go through.

"Call Me Beautiful" by Ginny Owens

"Call Me Beautiful" by Ginny Owens

I've been waiting
For a hero who's brave and strong-
Someone to love me,
Someone to tell me I belong,
So I pretend I'm satisfied,
And I stand watching on the sidelines,
Till You pull me into the light
And say, "It's Your turn now,
Welcome to your life!"

(Chorus)
And You call me beautiful,
And say You've loved me all along,
And You've always held the keys to unlock my soul
Oh You call me beautiful

There's a smile on my face,
And a brand new light in my eyes,
It's a new day,
And I've never felt so alive-
I feel as if I could conquer anything,
Oh that's what Your love has done for me,
And now all I want to be,
Is everything You want me to be-

(Chorus)
And You call me beautiful,
And say You've loved me all along,
And You've always held the keys
To unlock my soul, But I didn't know-
Now I can finally start to live,
Take those chances I have missed,
Things will be much different,
Now that I know
You call me beautiful

(Bridge)
The story is better than I could dream after all,
Now this is reality
To know You and to hear You call me beautiful
Call me beautiful-
Now I can finally start to live,
Take those chances I have missed,
Things will be much different,
Now that I know-
Now that I know
You call me beautiful

Lessons from LB

She’s the one who compelled me to create this Multiply account for the purpose of a daily “literary blog.”

I’m the insignificant student in her two classes for two consecutive semesters, who regularly receives her sharp and unpretentious critics.

She’s the cause of the frustrating tears I let go during my last sem in college.

I may not have left a mark in her life, maybe just my name written on her class lists for Eng106-G and Fil150-U a year ago or my average literary pages littered somewhere on the dusted corners of the Humanities building.

But surely, it was during her classes that Prof. LB directed my eyes on something more than her long and colored fingerclaws she deliberately sway while speaking. I discovered these, her words, quoted in my notebook, which I would want to share as well:

****

“For a child, the world is never literal.”

“Metaphorical world – losing this makes you close to loneliness.”
”A good writer listens even to those which are not said.”
”Every writer is actually explaining the world.”

“… Learn what needs to be improved with your writing to be able to come up with acceptable pieces.”

“Your fidelity should be to your craft, not to fame, not to yourself.”

“…understanding your own sensibilities, because your craftsmanship would employ a lot of your sensibilities.”

“Be serious about this course!”

“We’re trying to help each other here!”

“Readers are strangers.” (Dapat may hints—para makapasok sila sa pagsusulat ko.)

“Writer’s block? No! It’s unpreparedness.”

“Okay lang maging post-modernist. But if you really want longevity, be a formalist.”

“Kahit ano pa ginamit mo, dapat may organic unity—everything that you included in the writing is essential.”

****

I hope you caught them and find them useful for your own writing, too.

mukhasim entries

piliin. piliin ang alin. ang alin ang piliin.
hehe.

waiting is

steadfastness, that is holding on;

patience, that is holding back;

expectancy, that is holding the face up;

obedience, that is holding one's self in readiness to go or do;

listening, that is holding quiet and still so as to hear.

-as described by S.D. Gordon from his "Quiet Talks on Prayer" (quoted by Elisabeth Elliot, Passion and Purity)
